As we’ve been telling you for a while now, the audiovisual jamboree that is the Vimeo Festival + Awards is going to jam out even harder this year. That’s due in part to four new categories making their debut: Action Sports, Advertising, Fashion, and Lyrical. Let’s take a closer look at these categories, and what the judges are looking for in their quest to crown some winners.
Travis Rice and Stacy Peralta are on the hunt for a video that uses filmmaking to creatively showcase action sports. These dudes are not looking for sick trick videos — rather for well-crafted works that elevate the sport through compelling cinematography, editing, and storytelling.
David Droga, Benjamin Palmer, and Traktor are looking for a short video commissioned by a brand or advertising agency to promote a company, product, or service. Submissions that showcase outstanding creativity both in the thinking behind the campaign and in its execution will really stand out.
Nicola Formichetti, Nick Knight, and Humberto Leon are keeping their eyes peeled for a video showcasing a fashion/beauty collection or trend through moving images. Submissions that elevate the featured themes using original cinematic and/or storytelling techniques will be given special attention.
Philip Bloom, Blake Whitman, and Maria Popova all have unique perspectives on the world, and that’s what they’re looking for in a Lyrical video. Slow motion, timelapse, tilt shift, vidblog, and personal travel videos are a few examples of the styles that fit in Lyrical, but any video style used to capture your surroundings or personal life in an outstandingly creative, engaging way is eligible.
Remember that category winners are not just showered with high-fives — each winner will receive a $5,000 grant to help them create new work, plus a shot at our $25,000 Grand Prize. Submissions are still open, but not for long. The quickly approaching deadline is February 20. Submit now!
